Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw women's soccer defeated Wilmington College's Fighting Quakers 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
Tigers struck early when senior midfielder Sophia Patrey scored her first goal of the season unassisted in the bottom left corner of the net.
Leading 1-0 at halftime, DePauw was neck-and-neck with Wilmington in shot (3-3), corners (0-0), and saves (1-1).
Coach Allen challenged a play where Sophia Patrey was checked inside the penalty box, drawing a penalty kick goal for freshman midfielder Joie Carpenter and putting the Tigers ahead 2-0 in the 51st minute.
Lengthening the lead 3-0, freshman forward Maddie Grimm connected with junior forward Katharine Lacy for the third goal of the evening. Lacy passed across the box and Grimm made the shot with her left foot to shoot just above the goalie's head.
Ava Cady drew a yellow card on Wilmington, giving the Tigers a free kick goal opportunity that was delivered high.
DePauw women's soccer returns to action on Saturday, October 3rd at home in Greencastle for a 2:30 p.m. start for their final non-conference match up of the season.
