Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw men's soccer defeated Wilmington College's Fighting Quakers 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Julian Bell tallied his fourth goal of the season when Aidan Whitley made a long throw-in to Harrison Engel who headed the ball towards Bell. The junior put away the Tiger's first goal of the game off a header delivered into the middle of the net.
The Fighting Quakers tied it up six-minutes later off a long free kick that started a scramble in front of the net, allowing a player to catch senior goalkeeper Sam Ortner off-guard.
Tied up 1-1, 11-minutes into the game the pressure began to build for the Tigers despite the majority of the game remaining unwritten.
Pulling ahead, DePauw pulled ahead in the 43rd minute when senior forward Braden Murphey delivered the Tigers game-winning goal off a shot that rebounded off the goalie.
Ortner faced six shots on goal, saving five. Wilmington's goalie faced eight shots on goal, saving six.
Tigers edged the Quakers in shots, 14-9, and corners, 11-5.
Wilmington drew four yellow cards.
DePauw maintained possession in their attacking quadrant for 39% of the game.
With this win, the Tigers extend their record to 7-1 while Wilmington drops to 5-2-2.
DePauw men's soccer returns to action on Tuesday, September 29th on the road at Hanover for a 4:30 p.m start for their final non-conference match up of the season.
