Terre Haute, Ind. - After splitting the first two sets at Rose-Hulman, DePauw won the third and fourth for a 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 25-20) victory over the Fightin' Engineers. The Tigers improved to 9-3, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 2-9.
DePauw never trailed in the opening set, while hitting .306 to take the early lead. Similarly, the Fightin' Engineers never trailed in the second to even the match score at 1-1.
In the third, DePauw scored the first five points and never trailed. The Tigers won a tight fourth set and, again, were never behind.
Jen Proeh led the Tigers with 12 kills and hit .440, while
Addison Hooker followed with 10 kills while hitting .296.
Julia McWaters paced DePauw with 26 assists, while
Sophia Leonardi led with three aces with McWaters following with two.
Proeh had eight block assists for the Tigers with
Kaiden Harrington totaling four.
Lacey Pickering helped the defensive effort with 26 digs.
Keira Ohse led Rose-Hulman with 15 kills and hit .519 with Julia Irmen pacing the team with 39 assists. Keira, Emma Blanton, Peyton Blackwell-Spangler and Shae Clements each finished with two blocks and Kennedy Otwell had 25 digs.
DePauw outhit the hosts, .195-.077, and held a narrow edge in kills, 47-44. The Tigers led in aces, 9-5, and in blocks, 11-6.
The Tigers open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a 1 p.m. home match against Oberlin.
