St. Louis, Mis. - DePauw women's soccer fell 1-0 to UC Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon.

The Banana Slugs set the tone early, recording their first shot on goal at 14:08. Tigers freshman Joie Carpenter made DePauw's first blocked shot minutes later.

Battling to get on the board, energy picked up the second half with both teams increasing shots on goal. UC Santa Cruz edged DePauw 15-7 in shots, with the Tigers tallying 9 saves in the net for senior goalkeeper Aubree Empie. 

The Banana Slugs broke through in the 61st minute, scoring off a rebounded shot made by her fellow teammate and shooting beyond the reach of Empie in the upper right corner of the net, shot from just outside the penalty area. 

Freshman attacker Miller Spreen gave the Tigers their best chance at scoring in the 89th minute with the only shot on goal, aiming for the bottom right corner of the net and shooting from just outside the penalty box. 

Both teams maintained possession in the attacking direction for 25% of the time. 

Spreen led the Tigers by tallying two shots, one on goal. 

DePauw will look to regroup as they head into Wednesday's matchup on the road against the Fighting Engineers of Rose-Hulman at 7:00 p.m.
