Fond du Lac, Wis. - DePauw field hockey lost to Marian (Wis.) Saturday afternoon after a go ahead goal by the Panthers in the 51st minute.
DePauw drew the first corner of the game but Marian drew a penalty shot, scoring off a stroke delivered to the middle left edge of the cage at 1:39 in the first quarter. The Panthers claimed the first quarter offensively, recording two shots on goal and two corners.
Tigers found redemption in the second quarter, when Ava Gallagher dribbled to the edge of the circle, feeding the ball to teammate Hannah Zaiser. Keeping her back to the goalie, Zaiser swept the ball past the goalie's left side straight into the net.
The Panthers came back swinging minutes later, capitalizing on a scramble within the circle. Addelyn Gross chipped the ball from the right side of the circle to Shaelyn Klassen, who reached behind the goalie to redirect the ball into the cage for their second goal of the game.
Heading into halftime, the Tigers were down 1-2. Marian edged DePauw 7-6 in shots, 6-3 on goal but DePauw drew more corners: 5-2.
Sophomore Rosie Ondrla tied it up at 13:51 in the third by dribbling into the left side of the circle, dragging the ball across the goalie and tapping it past her left side into the middle of the cage.
Tied 2-2 with 29 minutes to go, DePauw led Marian with shots on goal: 4-2.
Breaking the tie, Marian tallied the game winning goal by charging the goalie and hitting a direct shot from the edge of the circle to put them ahead 3-2 with less than ten minutes in the game.
Junior Ella Harms was given a green card at 59:42.
The Panthers outshot the Tigers 10-9. DePauw tallied more corners, 9-3 in addition to fouls, 37-30. Tea Jerro started in goal, recording three saves on the day. Colby Durbin subbed in at the half to collect one for her record book.
With the loss, DePauw moves to 2-1 overall, while Marian improves to 1-1. The Tigers will return to action tomorrow on the road in Wisconsin to take on Concordia (Wis.) at 11 a.m. CDT.
