Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw extended its win streak to five after a North Coast Athletic Conference Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Ohio Wesleyan by scores of 8-2 and 18-0. The Tigers improved to 18-8 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 10-14 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Ohio Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the opener as it loaded the bases before Michael Malone drew a walk and Colton Moone was hit by a pitch.
The Tigers reached the scoreboard in the fifth as
Cuinn Morrow led off with a single before
Connor Osborne doubled. Morrow scored when
Bryson Dorsey reached on a fielder's choice as the Battling Bishops were unsuccessful trying to put out Osborne at third. Dorsey stole second and
Tyler Walkey walked.
Aidan Howard delivered a two-run single and
Grady Johnson was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Zach O'Connell's single scored Walkey before Florida plated Howard with a sacrifice fly. Morrow singled through the left side to bring home Johnson and make it 6-2.
DePauw tacked on two more in the sixth as Dorsey led off with a single and stole second. Walkey walked and Howard followed with a two-run double.
Howard, O'Connell and Morrow each had two of DePauw's nine hits and Howard drove in four. Three different Ohio Wesleyan players collected one hit each.
Justin Benes improved to 4-1, while Parker Tomlin dropped to 4-2.
Jaylen Windmiller earned his second save after allowing just one hit over the final three innings.
In the nightcap, the teams were scoreless until DePauw scored six in the bottom of the third.Â
Howard doubled with two outs and
Max Bond doubled with Johnson following with a two-run double. O'Connell followed with a two-run homer and Florida hit a solo blast. Morrow singled and stole second. Following a Nolan Osterlin's walk, Dorsey singled to left with Morrow scoring to make it 6-0.
Howard and Bond led off the fourth with back-to-back doubles with Bond later scoring on O'Connell's grounder. Florida walked and stole second before Morrow and Osterling walked. Dorsey drove in Florida with a single and Walkey plated Morrow after drawing a walk. Howard cleared the bases with a three-run double and Bond scored Howard with a double.
The Tigers wrapped up the scoring in the fifth on Morrow's RBI double, Howard's two-run single and Bond's sacrifice fly.
Howard had four of DePauw's 15 hits and drove in five, while Bond, Johnson, O'Connell, Morrow and Dorsey had two hits each. Malone had two of the Battling Bishops' four hits.
Nate Tencza improved to 2-2, while Grant Castle dropped to 0-1.
DePauw hosts Kenyon on Saturday, April 11, in a Noon NCAC doubleheader.
