Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw extended its win streak to seven with a doubleheader sweep of Kenyon by scores of 10-4 and 12-7. The Tigers improved to 20-8 overall and 6-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Owls dropped to 11-16 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
In the opener, Kenyon scored all of its runs in the third as Tyler Nee and Gio Giuliani singled before Otto McDill was hit by a pitch. Zack Webber followed with a grand slam to left center to make it 4-0.
The Tigers cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third as
Aidan Howard singled with one out and
Max Bond followed with a two-run homer down the left field line.
In the fourth,
Louis Florida led off with a double and scored when
Bryson Dorsey homered to right center to even the count at 4-4.
The score remained tied until the eighth as
Zach O'Connell and
Cuinn Morrow drew walks before Dorsey singled home O'Connell.
Tyler Walkey and Bond followed with RBI singles and Bond walked.
Grady Johnson then drove in Walkey and Howard with a single before O'Connell and Florida walked which plated Bond.
Howard and Dorsey each had three of DePauw's 12 hits with Bond and Johnson finishing with two each. Nee had two of Kenyon's five hits.
Pearse Riendeau improved to 5-1 after striking out eight in 8 1/3 innings. Sam Howell dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
Kenyon jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap as Nee led off with a double and Webber walked before Niko Price singled Nee home.
Webber led off the third for Kenyon with a single and stole second. Price walked and Webber was caught stealing on the play. Price moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on McDill's single. Matt Ardell and Ben Zimmerman followed with RBI singles. Ben Russell then delivered a three-run homer to left to extend the lead to 6-0.
DePauw countered in the bottom of the third as Walkey walked, Howard singled and Bond walked before Johnson hammered a grand slam to right. Morrow was hit by a pitch with two outs and stole second with
Connor Osborne driving him home after reaching on an error.
The Tigers evened the score in the fourth as Howard led off with a double, Bond walked and Johnson advanced them with a grounder. Florida drove in Howard with a single.
Howard singled to start the sixth, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on O'Connell's triple to give the Tigers a 7-6 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Kenyon tied it in the seventh with Webber leading off with a double, moving to second on Giuliani's sacrifice bunt and scoring on a wild pitch.
DePauw sealed the win in the bottom of the seventh with Morrow leading off with a walk, advancing to second on Osborne's grounder and scoring after a pair of wild pitches. Dorsey walked and stole second and moved to third on Walkey's grounder. Howard doubled home Dorsey and Bond drove in Howard with a single. After Bond stole second and Johnson walked, O'Connell followed with a two-run double to right center.
Howard had four of DePauw's 11 hits with O'Connell and Florida adding two each. Webber and Russell each had two of Kenyon's nine hits.
Charlie Hawk improved to 3-0 with five innings of relief work. Chris Cannuscio dropped to 1-4.
DePauw travels to Franklin tomorrow for a Noon single game.
