Wooster, Ohio - DePauw totaled 28 runs and pounded out 17 hits in each game of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wooster and swept the twinbill by scores of 10-6 and 18-12. With the sweep, the Tigers improved to 15-8 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC, while the Fighting Scots dropped to 17-8 overall and 2-2 in league play.
In the opener, DePauw trailed 5-2 after six innings, but put together a seven-run seventh to take command of the contest.
Grady Johnson had five of DePauw's 17 hits and drove in three, while
Connor Osborne had three hits.
Zach O'Connell,
Cuinn Morrow and
Bryson Dorsey each had two hits. Koa Siu had two of Wooster's eight hits.
Charlie Hawk improved to 2-0 as he allowed just one run in 3 2/3 innings in relief of starter
Pearse Riendeau. Hawk struck out four and didn't walk a batter in collecting the win. Alex Eusebio dropped to 0-3.
Johnson's two-run homer in the first and
Max Bond's sacrifice fly in the second got the Tigers out to a 3-0 lead in the second game, but Wooster came back with four in the second, one in the third and five in the fourth for a 10-3 lead.
Aidan Howard's RBI single in the sixth, followed by Johnson's sacrifice fly and O'Connell's fielder's choice RBI cut the deficit to 10-6.
DePauw then took the lead for good in the seventh after scoring 10 on seven hits with six of the runs crossing before an out was recorded. Osborne hit a leadoff homer and Johnson added a three-run blast in the frame to put the Tigers ahead.
Wooster countered with two in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Tigers' lead to 16-12, but DePauw scored single runs in the eighth and ninth to wrap up the win and the sweep.
Howard had five of DePauw's 17 hits and scored four with Johnson and Dorsey adding three hits each and Osborne finishing with a pair. Johnson drove in six and homered twice while also hitting a triple.
Colin Leslie, Luke Rizzo and Owen Sherrill each had two of Wooster's 10 hits.
Matt Ritter improved to 1-0 with three innings of relief work, while Ben Tarpey dropped to 0-1.
DePauw hosts Rose-Hulman on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
