Kori Stoffregen and Colt Slack Announcement

Structure Changes Announced in Track and Field and Cross Country Programs

Greencastle, Ind. – Today, Stevie Baker-Watson, associate vice president for student wellness and Theodore Katula Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports announced a change in the structure of its men's and women's track and field and cross country programs.

On July 1, 2026, Colt Slack will become the head men's and women's track and field coach/recruiting coordinator and Kori Stoffregen will assume the role of head men's and women's cross country coach and distance track coach.

"Kori and I have had meaningful conversations over the past several years about how he can best position these six teams (men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field) for success," Baker-Watson said.  His love for DePauw, the student-athletes, and these programs is tremendous; through these conversations, we developed a succession plan to leverage the strengths of both Kori and Colt.  Kori's legacy to this program cannot be underscored enough and his role and influence remains strong and with the programs' best interests in mind."

"Since 2021, Colt's influence on our recruiting and the growth and success of our student-athletes has been transformative. Colt is more than a technical expert; he is a vital mentor to our student-athletes and colleagues. We are also incredibly fortunate to retain Coach Kori's leadership as our head our men's and women's cross country coach and lead our distance group during the track season."

Stoffregen has overseen the cross country and track and field programs for 30 seasons and has directed the Tigers to 34 total team championships and has earned conference coach of the year 33 times.

"I'm looking forward to focusing on the cross country programs and our distance runners in track. Colt brings head coaching experience to his current position and I'm excited for him in this new role as he builds upon the success we've had in these six programs," Stoffregen said.

Slack came to DePauw in January 2021 as associate head track and field coach, recruiting coordinator and in those five years, the combined size of the rosters has increased by nearly 75% with the women's roster more than doubling in that time. The track and field programs have broken program records in 36 indoor and outdoor events during his time in Greencastle.

"The future of DePauw University track and field is incredibly bright," Slack said.

"We're entering an exciting new chapter, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to lead this team while building on the strong foundation established by coach Stoffregen. This program is defined by high-character individuals, outstanding athletes, and exceptional students. With the quality of this team, our excellent facilities, and the university's prestigious academics, there's no place I'd rather be. I'm very thankful to both Coach Stoffregen and Stevie Baker-Watson for their belief in my abilities to lead this program into a new era. Go Tigers!"
