University Heights, Ohio - DePauw dropped the opening game of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader by an 8-7 score in eight innings before holding on for a 14-10 win in the nightcap to earn the split. The Tigers moved to 20-12 overall and 9-3 in the NCAC, while the Blue Streaks are now 13-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
In the opener, John Carroll scored six in the second inning as Melissa Smith hit a two-run homer followed by Elaina Rodriguez's two-run double and a three-run homer by Jordan Anderson. Smith's solo homer in the third gave the Blue Streaks a 7-0 lead.
DePauw started its comeback in the fourth as
Paige Brady drove in two with a double and Libby Minoble plated one with a single to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Eliza Rammel's two-run double in the fifth closed the gap to 7-5. The Tigers evened the score in the sixth as Minobe drove in
Anni Felts with a single and later scored on
Megan Stieglitz's sacrifice fly.
John Carroll had two runners in scoring position in the seventh, but a force out at the plate and a strike out ended the threat and forced extra innings.
Abby Farber drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the eighth and pinch-runner Bella Carcioppolo advanced to second after Elizabeth Hohlefelder was hit by a pitch. Anderson's fly out to right advanced Carcioppolo to third before Izzy Coode delivered the game-winning single.
Rammel, Brady and Minobe each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Coode, Brynne Smith and Melissa Smith each had two of the Blue Streak's 10 hits.
Avery Welsh dropped to 1-1, while Kristin Dems improved to 5-6.
In the second game, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first as Rammel doubled home Minobe who led off the game with a triple.
Alex Romero-Salas and Brady then hit back-to-back homers.
The Blue Streaks countered with three in the bottom of the frame as Anderson hit a two-run homer and Bella Hunter drove in one with a sacrifice fly.
Coode's RBI single in the second evened the score at 4-4 and it stayed that way until the fifth.
In the fifth, Welsh drew a bases loaded walk and
Ella Kuenster scored on a wild pitch before Minobe and
Kelsey Schneider were each hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Rammel followed with an RBI single before Romero-Salas hammered a grand slam. Kuenster's grounder scored Brady to make it 14-4.
John Carroll scored four in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh innings.
Rammel, Romero-Salas and Kuenster each had two of DePauw's 12 hits with Romero-Salas driving in six with two homers. Hohlfelder, Anderson, Coode, Brynne Smith and Hunter each had two of John Carroll's 13 hits.
Izzy Deveau improved to 8-4, while Kaylinn Samuelraj dropped to 0-1.
