Tigers Sweep NCAC Twinbill

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw rallied from a 5-0 deficit to win game one of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader with John Carroll by a 16-6 score and completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory in the nightcap. The Tigers improved to 25-10 overall and 10-4 in NCAC play, while the Blue Streaks dropped to 19-12 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

In the opener, Thomas Bates led off the John Carroll second with a single and was forced at second when Jake Monaco reached on a fielder's choice. Monaco stole second and scored on Konner Hauck's two-out single. Hauck stole second before Patrick Sherman and Michael Pollard walked to load the bases. Ethan Glossa then delivered a grand slam to left to give John Carroll a 5-0 lead.

Nolan Osterling led off the DePauw fourth with a walk and moved to second on Bryson Dorsey's bunt single.Tyler Walkey reached on an error of his sacrifice bunt and Osterling scored on a wild pitch. Aidan Howard followed with a three-run homer to right to cut the Blue Streaks' lead to 5-4.

Following a John Carroll pitching change, Grady Johnson singled with one out and Louis Florida drew a two-out walk. Johnson and Florida each moved up on stolen bases and Zach O'Connell was hit by a pitch. Osterling followed with a grand slam to right to give the Tigers an 8-5 lead.

DePauw tacked on two more in the fifth as Walkey led off with a double, moved to third on Howard's grounder and scored on Max Bond's single. Johnson singled Bond to third and Cuinn Morrow drove in Bond with a single.

Johnson's RBI double in the seventh scored Johnson to push the DePauw lead to 11-5. 

The Blue Streaks added a run in the eighth as Keaton Phillips singled home Hauck.

DePauw scored five in the eighth to end the game with the 10-run rule. O'Connell plated Florida with a single and later scored after a pair of errors on Dorsey's sacrifice bunt. Walkey's two-run single scored Nate Hulen and Dorsey before Bond ended the game with a sacrifice fly that brought home Walkey.

Johnson had three of DePauw's 14 hits, while Howard, Bond and Walkey each had two. Hauck had three of John Carroll's eight hits with Bates chipping in a pair.

Jaylen Windmiller improved to 1-0 after allowing just one run over the final four innings with three strikeouts and no walks.

DePauw jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two and Howard led off with a homer before Bond doubled and Johnson hit a two-run blast. A two-out outfield error in the second allowed two more DePauw runners to score and gave the Tigers a 5-0 lead.

Glossa's solo homer in the third put the Blue Streaks on the board, but Johnson's two-run single in the fifth scored Walkey and Bond with Johnson later scoring on Florida's double to make it 8-1.

Hauck led off the John Carroll seventh with a triple and scored on Phillips' grounder. The Blue Streaks added one more in the ninth as Dylan Sowers led off with a single and scored on Chris Bach's double.

Bond, Johnson and Walkey each had two of DePauw's eight hits and Johnson drove in four. Bach had two of John Carroll's seven htis.

Kiayuan Baskerville dropped to 4-2, while Jamison Lewis improved to 4-2.

DePauw hosts Wabash on Tuesday, Apr. 28, in an NCAC doubleheader.
