DePauw Wraps up Home Portion of Schedule with Split

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw concluded the home portion of its schedule by splitting a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader with Wabash after winning the opener, 13-2, in seven innings and dropping the nightcap by a 15-3 score. The Tigers moved to 26-11 overall and finished NCAC play at 11-5, while the Little Giants are now 11-25 overall and 4-10 in conference play.

The Tigers wasted little time in getting out to a lead in the first game as a two-out Wabash error in the first allowed Grady Johnson and Cuinn Morrow to score.

The Tigers added five in the second as Nolan Osterling led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Bryson Dorsey's single. Tyler Walkey singled and Aidan Howard reached on a fielder's choice that forced Walkey at second. Max Bond walked to load the bases before Johnson drove in two with a double to right. Louis Florida then knocked in a pair with a two-out double.

Dorsey led off the Tigers' third with a homer to left before Howard doubled, Johnson walked and Morrow was hit by a pitch to fill the bases. Florida drew a walk that plated Howard and made it 9-0.

Walkey singled with two outs in the fourth, stole second and crossed on Howard's single. DePauw's final runs came in the fifth as Johnson led off with a double and Florida walked with Zach O'Connell and Osterling following with RBI singles. Dorsey and Walkey walked with O'Connell scoring to extend the lead to 13-0.

Wabash scored its runs in the seventh as Will Wallace and Jimmy Hawksworth walked and each advanced on a wild pitch. Will Fremion's single to center scored both.

Howard, Johnson, Osterling, Dorsey and Walkey each had two of DePauw's 13 hits. Four different Wabash players collected one hit each.

Justin Benes improved to 5-2 with the complete-game win after allowing just four hits, while Caleb Everson dropped to 3-4.

The Tigers again got out to a quick start in the second game as Howard led off with a single, moved to second on Bond's single and scored on Johnson's base hit. Morrow's sacrifice fly plated Bond and gave DePauw a 2-0 advantage.

Aiden Ramsey's leadoff homer in the Wabash third cut the lead in half. Ramsey, Andrew Sun and Landen Basey each singled to load the bases before Will McKinzie drove in Ramsey with a walk. Ben Henke brought home Sun with a walk and Parker Smith scored Basey with a sacrifice fly to give Wabash a 4-2 lead.

The Tigers responded in the bottom of the fifth as Walkey led off with a single, moved to second on Howard's single and scored on Bond's base hit.

Wabash took control of the game with five runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and three in the ninth on Kade Buecher's three-run homer.

Howard had three of DePauw's 11 hits with Bond and Johnson adding two each.

Sun had four of Wabash's 19 hits with Basey, Henke and Buecher totaling three apiece. McKinzie and Ryan Williams followed with two hits each.

Jarrrod Kirsch improved to 2-4, while Nate Tenzca dropped to 2-4.

DePauw faces 10th-ranked Baldwin Wallace in a doubleheader on Saturday in Mason, Ohio.

I chose DePauw because I was given the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love along with the knowledge of it being a very good school academically. DePauw is known for the various opportunities it provides so I wanted to make the most of that.
