Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw stayed in a first-place tie in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings following a sweep over Wooster by scores of 6-4 and 4-2. The Tigers improved to 18-10 overall and 7-1 in the NCAC, while the Fighting Scots dropped to 12-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
DePauw jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as
Kelsey Schneider and
Eliza Rammel each singled and advanced on stolen bases.
Alex Romero-Salas drove in two with a double down the left field line and
Paige Brady then doubled home Romero-Salas.
Jillian Meszaros led off the Wooster second with a homer, but the Tigers countered with three in the bottom of the frame.
Hanna Coffel doubled and
Libby Minobe walked before Schneider singled home Coffel. Rammel's single scored Minobe and Schneider scored when pinch-runner
Anni Felts was thrown out trying to steal.
Kaitlyn Hale led off the Wooster seventh with a walk and pinch-runner Shaylynn Rogaski moved to second on a wild pitch. Ella McCable doubled home Rogaski and Sage Lammlein singled with pinch-runner Madi Yankauskas moving to third. Tori Conner drove in Yankauskas with a grounder and Emma Hetkey wrapped up the scoring with an RBI double to left center.
Brady had three of DePauw's 10 hits, while Schneider, Rammel and Coffel had two apiece.Conner had two of Wooster's eight hits.
Romero-Salas improved to 10-6, while Conner dropped to 2-5.
In the second game, the Tigers took advantage of three Wooster errors to scored two runs in the first. Brady reached on an error with the bases loaded with Schneider scoring. Coffel reach on a fielder's choice that allowed Ella Kunester to score.
Brady singled with one out in the third and pinch-runner Felts stole second.
Avery Welsh's single advanced Felts to third and Felts came home on a double steal. Minobe made it 4-0 with an RBI single.
The Fighting Scots reached the board in the fifth as McCabe doubled and scored on Lammlein's single. Their other run came in the seventh as Conner walked with two outs and scored on Hetkey's double. Julia Jennings followed with a single, but Cate Barkdoll was retired on Minobe's diving catch in right center.
Rammel had two of DePauw's eight hits while Jennings had two of Wooster's six.
Izzy Deveau improved to 6-4, while Jillian Meszaros dropped to 10-5.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 18, when it travels to Wittenberg for a 1 p.m. NCAC doubleheader as the top teams in the leagues standings square off.
