Franklin, Ind. - DePauw totaled 16 hits and never trailed on the way to a 17-9 win at Franklin. The Tigers improved to 21-8 with their eighth straight win, while the Grizzlies dropped to 14-14.
The Tigers reached the board in the first as
Cuinn Morrow's sacrifice fly scored
Max Bond.
Tyler Walkey reached on a second-inning fielder's choice that allowed
Nolan Osterling to score. Walkey then scored on Bond's double.Â
Franklin countered with an unearned run in the third, but DePauw scored six in the fourth highlighted by two-run doubles from
Grady Johnson and
Zach O'Connell and Morrow's two-run homer that made it 9-1.
The Grizzlies closed the gap to 9-7 with three each in the fourth and sixth innings, but the Tigers tacked on two in the eighth and six in the ninth.
Johnson had three of DePauw's 16 hits with O;Connell, Morrow,
Louis Florida,
Bryson Dorsey and
Cooper Davis adding two each. Morrow drove in six in the win.
Josh Givan and Nic Deering each had three of Franklin's 15 hits with Garrett DeHart, Dyllan Redmon and Zander Cobb each totaling two.
Matt Ritter improved to 2-0, while Brayrton Belcher dropped to 1-2.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 18, with a Noon North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Franklin.
