Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw's
Alex Romero-Salas tossed a no-hitter in the opener against Oberlin as the Tigers won, 10-0, and the hosts overcame a 3-0 deficit in the second game for a 6-3 win. The Tigers improved to 16-10 overall and 5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Yeowomen dropped to 12-12 overall and 1-5 in conference.
DePauw scored all it needed in the bottom of the first as
Libby Minobe led off with a double and crossed the plate on
Eliza Rammel's single.
The Tigers erupted for seven runs in the second.
Emily DuMais' two-out single scored
Ella Ohrvall and
Hanna Coffel came home on the play when obstruction was called at the plate. Rammel's bunt single scored Minobe and, after Ella Kunester walked, Romero-Salas helped her own cause with a grand slam to right center to make it 8-0.
Paige Brady's sacrifice fly in the fourth scored Rammel and Romero-Salas came home on a wild pitch to wrap up the scoring.Â
Rammel, Romero-Salas and Ohrvall each had two of DePauw's 11 hits in the win.
Two Oberlin batters reached base in the opening frame on a hit by pitch and a DePauw error, but Romero-Salas retired the final 13 batters she faced. It marked the Tigers' first no-hitter since Cami Henry tossed a five-inning, perfect game at Denison on April 22, 2021. Cash Stone dropped to 4-3 with the loss.
Oberlin struck first in the second game as Anjali Singh led off with a single and stole second before scoring on Hannah O'Connor's double. After Connor Fogarty singled and stole second, Ava Soldo plated O'Connor with a ground out to give the Yeowomen a 2-0 lead.
The Yeowomen stretched it to 3-0 in the third as Soldo's single scored O'Connor who earlier reached on a fielder's choice and stole second and third.
DePauw's comeback started in the fourth as Kelsy Schneider singled with one out and stole second. Kuenster and DuMais delivered RBI singles to cut the Oberlin lead to 3-2.
The score stayed that way until the sixth when Rammel singled with one out and Ohrvall stole second as a pinch-runner. DuMais drew a two-out walk and Brady entered as a pinch-hitter and hit a ball that dropped just behind the circle for a base hit scoring Ohrvall and tying the game, 3-3.Â
Avery Welsh hit a ball halfway up the third base line for a single that brought home pinch-runner
Natalia Brignoni-Marcano. Coffel delivered the final runs with a two-run single to center.
Coffel had two of DePauw's eight hits with Singh finishing with two of Oberlin's seven.
Romero-Salas pitched two perfect innings in relief of
Izzy Deveau to improve to 9-6. Hailey Alspach dropped to 7-8.
