Greencastle, Ind. - The Tigers fell just short of their second conference win with a loss to John Carroll in overtime, with a final score of 11-10.
The Tigers started the game by putting up two goals by
Oscar Kokke and
Alex Sharma, but were quickly followed by a goal for the Blue Streaks by Braden Zarek. Zarek's goal was the first of 4 unanswered goals for John Carroll in the first quarter.
The score going into the second quarter was 4-2, before Seamus Nicholson scored again for the Streaks, making the score 5-3.
Oscar Kokke responded with another goal with three minutes left in the quarter, before Zarek scored another to match. The score going into halftime was 6-3, in favor of John Carroll.
The Tigers outscored the Blue Streaks 4-1 in the third quarter, with a goal by
Brody Carlson to open the half.
Kam Shiver had an unassisted goal in the 34th minute for the Tigers before
Oscar Kokke tallied his third goal of the day with three minutes left in the quarter to tie the game, 6-6. John Carroll's Seth Hogan scored the following minute, before
Carter Cassidy tied the score again with two minutes left in the quarter.
Heading into the fourth quarter tied, the Tigers scored three unanswered, with another goal from
Carter Cassidy and two goals from
Noah Sulpizio. With eight minutes remaining in regulation, the Blue Streaks' Braden Zarek scored three goals to force overtime, with one goal coming in the final minute of the game.
In overtime, Carmine Periandri won the face off for John Carroll, and 39 seconds into overtime, Braden Zarek scored his sixth goal of the day to win it for the Blue Streaks. DePauw's senior goalkeeper, Anthony Reinheart, totaled 14 saves on the day, while John Carroll goaltender Devin Holder had nine saves.
DePauw was 20 for 29 on clearing the ball and had 21 ground balls, while John Carroll was 18 of 24 on clears and totaled 36 ground balls. The Tigers turned the ball over 25 times during the course of the game, and the Blue Streaks turned the ball over 24 times.
DePauw's
Jack Neff and John Carroll's Jared Connell were both ejected with 3:48 left in the second quarter after an altercation. The Tigers had three penalties totaling two and a half minutes, and the Blue Streaks had two penalties totaling two minutes.
With the loss, DePauw falls to 5-6 and 1-3 in conference. Their next game is at home for senior day against Kenyon on Saturday, April 18th at 1 p.m.
