Tigers Split Day Two of NFCA Leadoff Classic

Columbus, Ga. - DePauw faced day two of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Leadoff Classic and split its Saturday games with a 4-3 late win over 4th-ranked Saint Mary's (Minn.) and a 13-2 loss 8th-ranked East Texas Baptist.

In the opening game against Saint Mary's the Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before capping off their scoring for the game in the second, 3-0. Tigers fought back with a pair in the bottom of the fourth. Ella Kuenster doubled before advancing to third on an error in left field, she came in to score an unearned run. Later in the inning, Coffel launched a double RBI, driving home Eliza Rammel to cut the Cardinals lead to 3-2 going into the fifth.

Tigers kept the Cardinal quiet offensively, and sprang to action at the end of the seventh. Trailing by one, Romero Salas reached first on a fielder's choice RBI, while Libby Minobe scored and Kelsey Schneider took advantage of a catcher's error to reach home and score the winning run.

Alex Romero-Salas tallied a 2-0 record, pitching all seven innings and facing 24 hitters. Eliza Rammel tallied three hits in the game, going 3-3 in the box.

In the East Texas Baptist game, the Tigers struggled to make offensive plays, offering a late rally in the 3rd before being run-ruled by the top ranked team.

The ETB Tigers took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, before Peyton Rohr entered the circle to bring an end to the inning. East Texas Baptist's seven-run second pushed the lead to 11-2 and DePauw picked up a pair in the top of the third as Libby Minobe doubled home Megan Stieglitz. Kuenster followed up shortly with a single to drive home Minobe.

East Texas Baptist tacked on two to lengthen their lead, 13-2 at the end of the third.

Izzy Deveau made an immediate impact in the circle, tallying three strikeouts out of the four batters faced.

DePauw returns to action on Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. game against Emory and a 3:30 p.m contest against LaGrange.
