Chicago, Ill. - DePauw held Illinois Tech scoreless over the game's first 39 minutes and the Tigers moved to 3-2 with a 7-2 victory over the Scarlet Hawks. Illinois Tech dropped to 0-5.
Kam Shiver put the Tigers on the board with 55 seconds left in the opening period before
Carter Cassidy scored a pair in the second and
Trevor Martay scored with 5:18 left in the half to make it 4-0.
Cassidy's score early in the third extended the lead to 5-0 before Diego Sosa delivered Illinois Tech's first goal with 5:49 remaining in the third.Â
Alex Sharma and
Cooper Kinney rounded out the Tigers' third period scoring before Sosa scored the lone goal of the fourth.
Cassidy led the Tigers with three goals with
Jack Neff assisting on three.
Nolan Childs caused six turnovers and totaled five ground balls, while
Anthony Reinhardt recorded 10 saves in goal.
Sosa had both of Illinois Tech's goals with Ryan Littler and Victor Bivona leading the way with five ground balls apiece and Altan Brown causing three turnovers. Duwayne Aikins won 8-of-10 faceoffs and Canyon Kuchel won 2-of-3. Littler had 11 saves over the 52:15 that he played in goal for the Scarlet Hawks.
DePauw outshot Illinois Tech, 39-26, including 18-12 in shots on goal. The Tigers committed 26 turnovers to Illinois Tech's 29 with the Scarlet Hawks winning 10 of the 13 faceoffs.
The Tigers travel to Transylvania on Saturday, March 14, for a 1 p.m. game.
