Richmond, Ind. - DePauw grabbed a 3-0 lead and never trailed on the way to a 7-2 win at Earlham. The Tigers improved to 13-7, while the Quakers dropped to 11-8.
DePauw jumped out to 1-0 lead in the second as
Connor Osborne led off with a single and advanced to second on
Nolan Osterling's one-out single.
Tyler Walkey singled to load the bases before
Aidan Howard scored Osborne with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Tigers expanded their lead to 3-0 in the fifth as
Max Bond was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on
Grady Johnson's single.
Zach O'Connell was hit by a pitch to load the bases and
Louis Florida delivered a single that brought home Bond and Johnson.
Earlham reached the board in the bottom half of the sixth as Mitchell Roether walked with one out, moved to second after Tucker Williams walked and scored on Jake Kane's double.Â
In the seventh, O'Connell doubled the left center and advanced to third on a balk before scoring when Florida singled to center to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Quakers responded in the bottom of the seventh with Eric Echeverria leading off with a double and later scoring on Roether's single to left.
The Tigers blew the game open in the ninth as Bond led off with a double and came home on Johnson's single. After O'Connell reached on a fielder's choice, Florida singled moving O'Connell to third. Florida stole second and Osborne made it 7-2 with a two-run double to left.
Johnson had four of the DePauw's 14 hits, while Florida added three and Osborne finished with two. Echeverria and Evan Duncan each had two of Earlham's six hits.
Justin Benes improved to 3-1 after allowing just one run on four hits in six innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
Jake Thometz pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief with three strikeouts and no walks to notch his first save. Axel Kappes dropped to 0-2.
The Tigers travel to Earlham tomorrow for a 6:30 p.m. game.
