Franklin, Ind. - After posting a 5-0 shutout win in game one of its doubleheader at Franklin, 23rd-ranked DePauw dropped the second game by a 9-0 score in five innings. The Tigers moved to 13-7, while the Grizzlies improved to 12-4.
Alex Romero-Salas put DePauw on the board in the second with a solo homer before
Avery Welsh clubbed her first collegiate homer in the third to make it 2-0.
Romero-Salas led off the fourth with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a passed ball.
In the sixth, Romero-Salas led off with a single and pinch-runner
Ella Ohrvall advanced to second on
Kendall Hynes' sacrifice bunt.
Megan Stieglitz reached on an infield single and
Hanna Coffel loaded the bases with a single to left. Welsh then reached on an error that allowed Ohrvall and Stieglitz to score.
Romero-Salas led DePauw with three of its 11 hits, while Coffel had two.Â
Zoey Kugelman and Kaylee Stewart each had two of Franklin's six hits.
Romero-Salas improved to 7-4 with her second consecutive shutout as she allowed just six hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Lauren Duncan dropped to 3-2.
In the nightcap, Franklin scored three in the first, one in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth for the run-rule victory.
Ohrvall had two of DePauw's six hits, while Kugelman, Kendall Lowry and McKenna Lucas each had two of the Grizzlies' 11 hits. Kugelman, Lowry and Hadley Fuhrman each homered for Franklin.
Izzy Deveau dropped to 4-3 with the loss, while Rylan Young improved to 4-0 with the six-hit shutout.
DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Sat., Apr. 4, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Denison.
