Springfield, Ohio - DePauw opened North Coast Athletic Conference play at Wittenberg and dropped both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 19-3 and 15-5. The visiting Tigers dropped to 12-7, while Wittenberg improved to 17-5.
In the opener, Wittenberg scored three in the first and two in the second before DePauw reached the board in the third on
Louis Florida's bases-loaded walk.
Connor Osborne's solo homer in the fourth closed the gap to 5-2, but the hosts added seven in the fourth for a 12-2 lead.
Grady Johnson's solo homer in the fifth wrapped up DePauw's scoring as Wittenberg added three in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Johnson and
Aidan Howard each had two of DePauw's seven hits. Xander Rodriguez and Daniel Gladden each had four of Wittenberg's 20 hits. Charlie Marando added three with Alex Nemunaitis, Tommy Chilicki, Quintin Applegate and Cam Gladden each totaling two.
Pearse Riendeau dropped to 4-1, while Wade Thewes improved to 4-1.
In the nightcap, Wittenberg again grabbed a 5-0 lead with three in the first and one each in the second and third innings.Â
Osborne's single in the fifth scored
Zach O'Connell who led off the inning with a double.Â
Wittenberg countered with three in the bottom of the fifth before DePauw countered with three in the top of the sixth. O'Connell's single plated Johnson before Osborne blasted a two-run homer.
Max Bond's leadoff homer in the seventh wrapped up DePauw's scoring before the hosts ended the game with the run rule after scoring four in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Johnson, Osborne, O'Connell and
Bryson Dorsey each had two of DePauw's 10 hits. Corbin Marshall had four of Wittenberg's 19 hits with Nemunaitis added three. Rodriguez, Applegate, Daniel Gladden, George Janzen and Landon Turner each finished with two hits.
Jamison Lewis dropped to 2-2, while Andrew Rust improved to 4-0.
DePauw returns to action on Tues., March 31, with a 6 p.m. game at Earlham.
