Sewanee, Tenn. - Sewanee closed the first half on an 8-2 run and outscored the Tigers, 13-0, in the second half on the way to a 24-5 win over DePauw. The visiting Tigers dropped to 4-6, while Sewanee improved to 10-1.
Sewanee scored first just 1:50 into the contest before
Kate Sullivan evened the count with an assist from
Katie Jauchius. Sewanee scored the next two to send the hosts to a 3-1 lead at the quarter break.
DePauw's
Kate Leone and
Mary Mason scored in a 23-second span early in the second to make it 3-3, but Sewanee outscored the Tigers, 8-2, the rest of the half to take an 11-5 lead at the intermission.
Sewanee dominated the second half as it outscored DePauw, 13-0, and outshot the Tigers, 22-0.
Leone had two of DePauw's five goals while Jauchius assisted on three. Sullivan earned five draw controls.
Sally Herrington led Sewanee with four goals with Marlin Price adding three along with seven assists. Ellen Lewis paced the squad with five draw controls, while Clara Early totaled four ground balls and Ella Townsend caused four turnovers.
Niamh Callahan finished with 11 saves in goal for DePauw, while Sewanee's Lilly Jordan had one stop.
Sewanee held a 42-7 edge in shots including 31-6 in shots on goal. The hosts led in ground balls, 23-7, and committed just nine turnovers to DePauw's 24. Each team had 15 draw controls.
DePauw opens North Coast Athletic Conference play on Sat., Apr. 4, with a 12 p.m. game at John Carroll.
