Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw opened the home and North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Ohio Wesleyan by scores of 10-0 and 10-1 with both games ending in the fifth with the run rule. The Tigers improved to 12-6 with the Battling Bishops slipping to 4-12.
In the opener, the Tigers grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first as
Libby Minobe drew a leadoff walk, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. After
Alex Romero-Salas walked with one out and stole second,
Eliza Rammel doubled to left scoring both.
Kendall Hynes and
Avery Welsh each walked with two outs and Rammel scored on a wild pitch.
DePauw added four more in the third with
Mia Speidel leading off with a walk, moving to second on Minobe's sacrifice bunt and advancing to third on
Ella Kuenster's single. Kuenster stole second and Romero-Salas reached on an error with Speidel and Kuenster scoring.
Paige Brady's two-out double plated Romero-Salas before Hynes singled and stole second. Brady scored on a throwing error during Hynes' steal.Â
Romero-Salas singled to lead off the fourth and pinch-runner
Anni Felts stole second and advanced to third on Rammel's sacrifice bunt. Brady reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Felts to score and Brady crossed on Hynes' double.
Hanna Coffel drove in Hynes with a grounder to short.
Hynes and Welsh each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while three Battling Bishops collected one each.Â
Romero-Salas improved to 6-4 after allowing three hits with five strikeouts and just one walk in five innings. Olivia Basil dropped to 1-5.
In the nightcap, DePauw scored six in the first as Rammel drove in Ohrvall with a single and scored on Kuenster's sacrifice fly. Hynes and Brady each scored when
Alyse Price reached on an error.
Evelyn Krueger delivered a two-run single that made it 6-0.
Rammel's RBI double in the second and Kuenster's run-scoring single extended the lead to 8-0 before Price plated two with a single.
Ohio Wesleyan's run came in the fifth as Megan Tooill singled with one out and pinch-runner Caitlin Aleshire moved to second on a wild pitch. Katie Enneking singled home Aleshire with two outs.
Rammel had two of DePauw's 10 hits with four different Ohio Wesleyan players finishing with one each.
Izzy Deveau improved to 4-2, while Makenna Knisley dropped to 1-3.
DePauw travels to Franklin tomorrow for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
