Winter Haven, Fla. - DePauw extended its win streak to eight with an 8-1 win over Purchase in game one, but the Panthers rallied for a 5-2 victory in the nightcap. The Tigers moved to 12-4 with the split.Â
In the opener,
Max Bond led off with a homer and, in the third inning, scored on
Grady Johnson's double.
Aidan Howard crossed in the third on
Cuinn Morrow's sacrifice fly.
Tyler Walkey's solo homer in the fourth pushed the lead to 4-0. Bond was hit by a pitch in the sixth with the bases loaded, scoring
Zach O'Connell.
Bryson Dorsey came home when Howard reached on a fielder's choice. Morrow added a two-run double to extend the lead to 8-0.
Tristen Abreu and Cameron Cruz led off the Purchase sixth with singles and advanced on a wild pitch. Michael Pagano's grounder brought home Abreu with the Panthers' only run.
Howard and Johnson each had two of DePauw's 10 hits, while five different Purchase players had one hit each.
Zach O'Connell improved to 1-0 with the win and totaled seven strikeouts in five innings. Louis Gonzalez dropped to 1-2.
In the second game, Purchase took a 1-0 lead in the first as Brian Saldana and Lukes Vukdedaj hit back-to-back two-out doubles.
DePauw reached the board in the bottom of the first with Bond leading off with a double and scoring on
Louis Florida's single. Morrow drove in O'Connell, who drew a walk, with a single.
Nicholas Gonzalez's single in the fourth brought home Saldana and Zachary Redlund's sacrifice fly plated Robert Nunez and gave Purchase a 3-2 lead.
Gonzalez and Redlund each had RBI singles in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-2.
Florida and
Cooper Davis each had two of DePauw's six hits, while Saldana had three of Purchase's 10 hits and Ben Sciarra and Gonzalez followed with two apiece.
Michael Hoog dropped to 0-1, while Sean Fanning improved to 1-1. Isaiah Patel picked up his third save.
DePauw faces Kalamazoo tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Tigers' final game in Florida.
