Clermont, Fla. - DePauw opened its spring break trip with a split of its Sunday games as the 21st-ranked Tigers topped Augustana (Ill.) by a 9-2 score before falling to George Fox, 5-4. The Tigers moved to 8-4 with the split.
DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as
Kelsey Schneider singled and stole second before Ella Kuesnter walked.
Eliza Rammel followed with a triple.
Emily Gad's second-inning single scored Emma Evans and cut the DePauw lead in half.
The Tigers countered in the bottom half of the inning as
Hanna Coffel singled and moved to second on
Mia Speidel's sacrifice bunt.
Libby Minobe's two-out single brought home Coffel.
DePauw extended the lead to 4-1 in the fifth as
Angelese Cruz scored from third after an Augustana throwing error.Â
The Vikings added a single run in the sixth as Evans drove in Aubrey Gradin with a single.
DePauw wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the sixth as
Emily DuMais drove in
Katherine Warren with a single before Kuenster plated
Evelyn Krueger and
Mia Speidel with a base hit. Rammel delivered a triple which scored Kuenster and Minobe.
Rammel had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Gradin and Gad each had two of Augustana's seven hits.
Izzy Deveau improved to 2-1, while Mya Brown dropped to 1-1.
In the George Fox game, DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as Minobe scored when Kuenster reached on an error.
The Bruins evened the score in the bottom of the third as Tinley Taylor singled home Makayla Noone. Noone's single in the fourth scored Sam Stadtlander and gave George Fox a 2-1 advantage. Taylor doubled home Kiley Harris in the fifth to extend the George Fox lead to 3-1.
The Tigers took the lead in the sixth with Rammel singling home Cruz before
Alex Romero-Salas doubled, scoring Warren. Romero-Salas later scored from third after
Kendall Hynes was out in a rundown.
The Bruins won the game in the bottom of the seventh as Corine Doran led off with a single and pinch-runner Cami Nakamura advanced to third on Harris' double. Taylor and Kayla Mashino each lifted sacrifice flies to left to end the game.
Romero-Salas and Welsh each had two of DePauw's eight hits. Harris and Taylor each had two of George Fox's six hits.
Romero-Salas dropped to 5-3, while Allison Heater improved to 2-3.
DePauw faces Kalamazoo and Middlebury on Monday.
