Davenport, Fla. - DePauw moved to 11-3 on the season and extended its win streak to seven with a doubleheader sweep of Williams by scores of 11-4 and 5-2. The Ephs dropped to 3-4.
In the opener, DePauw jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first as
Max Bond led off the game with a double and scored on
Aidan Howard's triple.
Grady Johnson followed with an RBI single before
Louis Florida and
Cuinn Morrow also singled to load the bases. Johnson scored on a wild pitch and
Nolan Whitehead walked before
Zach O'Connell and
Cooper Davis each added sacrifice flies.
Florida's second-inning double scored Johnson before O'Connell doubled home Morrow in the fifth and Whitehead came home on Davis' grounder.
Williams reached the scoreboard in the sixth on Marcus Burell II's RBI single and Will Scott's run-scoring double. Ryan Nakajima followed with an RBI grounder and Quinn Carlesimo drove in the fourth with a base hit.
DePauw added three more in the seventh as
Tyler Walkey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Bond followed by reaching on a fielder's choice that allowed Whitehead to score. Davis came home on a steal to make it 11-4.
Howard had four of DePauw's five hits with Florida totaling two. Carlesimo finished with two of Williams' seven hits.Â
Justin Benes improved to 2-1, while Lucas Brandt dropped to 0-1.
In the second game, the Ephs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Nakajima's RBI ground out, but Florida's double in the bottom of the frame brought home Howard.
The teams were scoreless until the fifth when Marcus Burrell II drove in Oliver Rey to give Williams a 2-1 advantage. Walkey singled to start the DePauw fifth and Bond walked before Howard delivered a two-run double to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
Walkey's RBI single in the sixth and Howard's sacrifice fly wrapped up the scoring.
Walkey had two of DePauw's four hits with five different Ephs collecting one hit apiece.
Nate Tencza improved to 1-1 with
Jaylen Windmiller earning his first save. Peyton Rose dropped to 0-1.
The Tigers face Purchase College in a 10 a.m. doubleheader on Tues., March 24.
