Elizabethtown, Ken. - DePauw went 2-0 for day one of the Transylvania Pioneer Classic, defeating Anderson 8-3 and run-ruling Hanover 14-5 (5 inn.).
In the opening game against Anderson the Tigers took an early lead with an RBI single delivered up the middle from Eliza Rammel to bring in Ella Kuenster for the first run of the game.Â
DePauw tallied two in the second to strengthen the lead to 3-0 before the Ravens responded with an RBI double to center field at the bottom of the second, 3-1.
Entering the next inning, the Tigers claimed two more off an RBI single and Kendall Hynes showed aggressive baserunning, stealing home on a wild pitch.Â
Anderson scored two off a defensive error, earning two unearned runs for the Ravens, cutting the Tigers' lead 6-3.Â
In the final two innings, DePauw tightened their defense and recorded two more runs to finish the game 8-3.Â
Hanna Coffel led the Tigers, going 3-4 in the box, tallying three runs herself. Kelsey Schneider went 2-4 batting, but collected two runs batted in for the team. Kuenster and Coffel both knocked two doubles for the Tigers. DePauw recorded eight stolen bases.Â
Avery Welsh tallied the win in the circle, pitching 3.1 innings, tallying three strikeouts, and facing 11 batters.Â
In the Hanover game, the Tigers jumped into action with Rammel yet again hitting in the first run of the game, batting in the four hole. The Panthers claimed the lead at the top of the second with a double to left center, hitting in two runs. Â
The Tigers collected 13 runs in the next three innings, leading the Panthers 14-2 by the end of the fourth.Â
Freshman Alyse Price launched her first career home run in the third, bringing in two runs and was immediately followed up by another homerun, delivered by fellow Freshman Megan Stieglitz.Â
Panthers tried to retaliate in the fifth, scoring three runs but couldn't cut the lead enough to avoid being run-ruled by the Tigers, eight runs after five innings.Â
Tigers were active in the box, tallying 15 hits off 24 at bats. Eliza Rammel and Mia Speidel both went 3-3 at the plate. Alex Romero-Salas two doubles on the day and Speidel led DePauw with four RBI.
Romero-Salas claimed the win for the Tigers in the circle, pitching 4 innings, striking out two batters, and facing 15 batters.Â
DePauw returns to action on Sunday, March 22 for THE Spring Games at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Florida for their six game spring break trip.
