Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw tallied their first home win of the season defeating Centre 13-9 behind a balanced offensive effort. DePauw improves to 3-4 and Centre falls to 2-4.
Katie Jauchis got the scoring started early when she netted two unassisted goals in the first two minutes of play. She sparked a four goal run with Kate Leone and Mary Mason each adding unassisted goals as well. Centre answered with a five goal run of their own that was sparked by back-to-back goals from Gracie Garner and Sophia Richardson who each netted four on the afternoon. The Tigers' leading scorer, Kate Sullivan, broke a 17-minute scoring drought to tie the game back at five. Centre scored one more to bring their total to six before Leone scored off an assist from Jauchis to tie the game once again. Emerson Perea gave the Tigers a lead with just two seconds left before the half.
DePauw opened really strong in the second half, dominating possession. Sullivan netted the opening goal of the half. Kai Coffee scored a goal in the third before Sullivan tacked on her second of the quarter to lead the team with three goals on the day. With her performance today Sullivan is now at 20 goals on the season. Centre answered with two goals of their own but it wasn't enough to overpower a three-goal fourth quarter from the Tigers. In the fourth, Mason and Perea both scored their second goals of the contest and Delana Underwood netted the final goal of the afternoon for DePauw. Centre's Richardson scored a highlight caliber backhand shovel shot with 1:30 left to play to bring the final score to 13-9.
Sullivan had another strong day in the draw circle finishing with a game-high eight draw controls. Leone picked up a game-high four ground balls. Perea and Isabel Ramirez led the Tigers with two caused turnovers and Niamh Callahan made six saves.
Centre's offense was led by Garner and Richardson with four goals each. Three Colonels led their team with three ground balls each. Three Colonels led their team with two caused turnovers. Mary Haley finished with five saves in net.
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday, March 18th at 5 p.m. when they travel to Lexington, Kentucky to take on Transylvania.
