Tigers Pick Up First Win of the Season Against Cardinals Behind Sullivan’s Sock Trick

Westerville, Ohio - DePauw picked up their first win of the season against Otterbein with a final score of 14-13. DePauw moves to 1-2 on the season and Otterbein falls to 1-2.

Both teams traded goals in the first quarter. Emerson Perea opened the scoring before Kate Leone tacked on two more. The Cardinals would answer with 3 goals of their own, including two on the extra man advantage. Kate Sullivan broke the deadlock with her first of six goals with a shorthanded effort with 33 seconds left.

The Tigers opened the second quarter with four more goals to stretch their run to five straight goals. Mary Mason scored two, Sullivan bagged her second, and Katie Jauchis added one. The Cardinals would close the quarter with a three-goal run to make the score 8-6 in favor of DePauw at the half.

Sullivan and Rosalie Tasker opened the second half with one goal each to stretch the DePauw lead to 10-6. The Cardinals would answer with three unassisted goals. Jauchis scored DePauw's 11th goal of the night with an assist from Mason and Sullivan would score her 4th of the night which was assisted by Tasker. Otterbein would score the last goal of the 3rd quarter which led to a four-goal run to give them a narrow 12-13 lead with under three-minutes to play.

Sullivan was captain clutch for the Tigers, scoring the game-tying goal with thirty-two seconds left to play off another assist from Tasker. Sullivan would send the Tigers home with a win when she found the back of the net with just four seconds to play.

Sullivan was all over the field as she led DePauw with seven ground balls and nine draw controls. Tasker and Sullivan led the team with two caused turnovers each. In goal, Niamh Callahan made 11 saves and finished the night with a 46% save percentage to pair with four ground balls, good for second on the team. 

Otterbein was led by Ava Robey with four goals while Dakota Klein and Alyssa Glenn each added three. Karley Gerst dished out two assists. Glenn and Alayna Bogner led the Cardinals with five ground balls. Glenn was the leader on defense with six caused turnovers, and she won a team high six draw controls. Bogner made 12 saves with a 46% save percentage.

The Tigers are back in action at home on Saturday, February 28th against Rhodes at 12 p.m at Reavis Stadium.
