Kai Coffee Nets Five in Hard-Fought Battle with Carthage

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw fell to Carthage 10-7. DePauw falls to 0-2 and Carthage moves to 2-0.

Sophomore Kai Coffee led the Tigers' offense with five points on the afternoon. Coffee combined with Rosalie Tasker for a quick goal to give DePauw an early 1-0. The Redbirds would respond with two consecutive goals before Mary Mason and Coffee each scored to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead after one quarter.

Carthage went to score three goals before Coffee picked up her second goal of the afternoon. DePauw would go into the half trailing Carthage 5-4. Kate Sullivan was the only Tigers' goalscorer of the second half, netting a hat trick. Sullivan's effort wouldn't be enough as Carthage outscored DePauw 5-2 in the second half of play.

Coffee and Rosalie Tasker both tallied three assists in the afternoon. Tasker netted one goal and Coffee netted two. Sophomore Mary Mason added one goal, one assist, and eight draw controls to help the Tigers out offensively.

On the defensive end, five different Tigers recorded two caused turnovers. Kate Sullivan, Kate Leone, and Kai Coffee all led the team with three ground balls. Sophomore Goalie Niamh Callahan had 8 saves and finished the game with a 44% save percentage.

The Firebirds' offense was led by four goals from Piper LeFevre and three free position goals from Auggie Claridge. Claridge added two caused turnovers. Shannon Heitschmidt added two assists in the game. Goalie Xochitl Delvale-Vera made six saves finishing with a 46% save percentage and a team-high 4 ground balls.

The Tigers will travel to Westerville, Ohio on Wednesday, February 25th to take on Otterbein College at 5 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday, February 28th at 12 p.m. against Rhodes.
