University Heights, Ohio - John Caroll shot over 63 percent in the second half and nearly 88 percent in the fourth period and overcame a halftime deficit to top DePauw, 59-50. The Tigers dropped to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the 12th-ranked Blue Streaks improved to 17-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
DePauw led by as many as six in the opening quarter before John Carroll finished the stanza on an 11-2 run to take a 15-12 lead into the second.
After the Blue Streaks extended the margin to six, DePauw scored seven straight to regain the lead.
Olivia Hart and
Riley Mont closed the half for the Tigers with buckets to give them a 27-26 halftime advantage.
The hosts scored 10 consecutive points to start the second half and grabbed a 36-27 advantage. John Carroll still led by nine at 38-29, but DePauw countered at Mont hit a three before
Hannah Lach and Hart each scored to cut the deficit to 38-36.Â
DePauw was unable to convert its first six shots of the fourth before the Blue Streaks scored five to push the lead to 43-36.
Tori Allen's 3-pointer with 6:32 left closed the gap to four, but Gracie Semptimphelter came back with a three-point play and a free throw following a Tigers' turnover to extend the lead to 47-39 with 5:25 remaining.
Allen's trey trimmed the deficit to five, but the Blue Streaks scored the next five to make it 52-42. The Tigers got no closer than eight the rest of the way.
Hart led the Tigers with 16 points and 12 rebounds with Mont scoring 14, dishing out three assists and totaling four steals.
Semptimphelter led John Carroll with 17 points and three assists with Ava Ryncarz following with 11 and a team-high eight rebounds.
DePauw shot 29.6 percent from the field and only 25.7 percent in the second half, while John Carroll connected on 48.9 percent from the field including a 9-of-19 performance from beyond the arc. DePauw held a 35-28 rebounding edge and grabbed 17 on the offensive glass.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4, with a 7:30 p.m. NCAC game at 10th-ranked Denison.
