Delaware, Ohio - DePauw shot a season-low 36.7 percent from the field and Ohio Wesleyan knocked in 50 percent of its shots as the Battling Bishops topped the Tigers by a 77-65 count. The Tigers dropped to 11-6 overall and 4-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Ohio Wesleyan improved to 6-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
The Tigers shot just 24.2 percent in the first half and the Battling Bishops closed the first 20 minutes on a 7-0 run to take a 40-23 lead into the halftime break. DePauw hit 51.9 percent in the second half, but got no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Caleb Washington led DePauw with 15 points followed by
Joe Smith with 14 and
Sam Jacobs with 13. Washington and
Reph Stevenson each hauled down seven rebounds and Jacobs handed out four assists.Â
Peyton Frey paced Ohio Wesleyan with 18 points with Jake Lowman adding 16 and a game-high 11 rebounds and five assists. Isaac Ward followed with 14 points and Jessee Battle scored 11.
DePauw outrebounded Ohio Wesleyan, 42-34, but the Tigers committed 18 turnovers to the Battling Bishops' 10 as Ohio Wesleyan held a 19-9 edge in points off of turnovers.
DePauw travels to Kenyon on Saturday, Jan. 24, for a 1 p.m. NCAC game.
