Gambier, Ohio - DePauw never trailed in its North Coast Athletic Conference game at Kenyon and snapped a three-game losing streak with an 85-66 win over the Owls. The Tigers moved to 12-6 overall and 5-4 in NCAC play, while Kenyon dropped to 9-9 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
DePauw opened the contest with a 15-2 run as
Sam Jacobs and
Joe Smith each scored five in the stretch. The Owls trimmed the deficit to eight on a couple of occasions before the Tigers scored 11 straight to take their largest lead of the half at 31-12 with 7:46 left. Kenyon was back within nine before DePauw scored the last seven in the final 1:26 to take a 43-27 lead into the intermission.
The Tigers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half and led by as many as 28 on three occasions before Kenyon finished the contest with nine straight.
Caleb Washington and Jacobs each scored 14 in the win with Smith chipping in 11 and
Patrick Joyce matching a career high with 10.
Reph Stevenson and Washington each grabbed six rebounds and Smith had five assists.
Marius Mazeika paced Kenyon with 23 points, while Jackson Burke followed with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Nick Valentino scored 10 with Burke and Will McDonald each adding three assists.
DePauw shot 49.2 percent from the field to Kenyon's 31.4 percent and the Tigers held a 46-24 rebounding edge for a 25-9 advantage in second-chance points.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28, when they host Wabash at 7 p.m.
