Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored 12 straight in the third quarter and pulled away from visiting Kenyon on the way to a 67-47 North Coast Athletic Conference win. The Tigers improved to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC with their third straight win, while the Owls dropped to 5-11 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
The Tigers scored 10 straight in the opening period and took an 18-10 lead into the quarter break and then extended the lead to 32-20 at the halftime intermission.
DePauw's
Olivia Hart opened the second half with a pair of free throws to push the lead to 14 before Kenyon's Abby Burdette and Kiana Mollabashy knocked down threes and Antonia Marzini followed with a layup to cap an 8-0 run that cut DePauw's lead to 34-28 with 7:28 left in the third.Â
Tori Allen's basket and four straight free throws started a 12-0 stretch which lifted DePauw to a 46-28 lead after
Bren Hill's layup with 47 seconds left in the third. The Owls countered with a bucket before DePauw scored the final four points of the third to take a 50-30 lead into the final period.Â
Riley Mont's three in the opening 1:07 of the fourth extended the margin to 23 and the Tigers led by as many as 25 at 57-32. Kenyon put together a 9-0 run later in the fourth to close to within 14, but DePauw scored the final six points of the contest.
Hart and Allen each scored 14 in the win, while Mont added 13 along with 10 rebounds and five steals. Allen and
Hannah Lach finished with three assists each.
Burdette paced Kenyon with eight points with Susannah Zimmerman grabbing five rebounds. Zimmerman and Burdette each totaled three assists.
The Tigers shot 41.7 percent for the game to Kenyon's 42.2 percent and DePauw held a 36-23 rebounding edge which led to a 10-0 advantage in second-chance points. DePauw committed 15 turnovers with the Owls totaling 27 and the Tigers took advantage with a 33-12 lead in points off of turnovers.
DePauw travels to 12th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, Jan. 21, for a 6 p.m. game.
