Delaware, Ohio - DePauw was unable to overcome a double-digit deficit and fell at 10th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan by a 55-50 score. The Tigers dropped to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Battling Bishops improved to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
The Battling Bishops got out to a 9-2 lead on the way to a 19-10 advantage after the opening period and quickly stretched that to 22-10 in the opening three minutes of the second. DePauw got back to within seven before Ohio Wesleyan took a 31-22 lead into the intermission.
The Tigers trimmed the deficit to five after
Bren Hill's bucket with 4:19 left in the third, but the hosts countered with a 6-0 stretch and took a 45-36 lead into the final 10 minutes.
Ohio Wesleyan matched its largest lead of the contest on two occasions in the fourth with the last coming at 53-41 on Macy Miller's basket with 4:23 remaining. DePauw's 7-0 run got it within five at 53-48 with 1:46 left, but the Tigers got no closer.
Olivia Hart led DePauw with 14 points, while
Riley Mont added 13 and
Diana Burgher 11 along with a team-high four assists. Hart and Mont each grabbed eight rebounds.
Miller paced the Battling Bishops with 18 points and 15 rebounds with Alyssa Griner chipping in 10 points. Nora Johns dished out a team-best four assists.
DePauw shot just 27.1 percent from the field while Ohio Wesleyan connected on 33.3 percent. The Battling Bishops held a narrow, 45-43, edge on the boards and the Tigers committed 15 turnovers to Ohio Wesleyan's 14.
The Tigers host Wooster on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m.
