Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 2-0 to undefeated Centre (4-0-0) at Reavis Stadium.
The first half was tightly contested, with both teams trading shots and DePauw earning four corner kicks, but neither side could break through before halftime.
Just under three minutes into the second half, Centre's Riley Givens opened the scoring with a close strike that slipped past goalkeeper Aubree Empie. Despite DePauw's push forward, Centre doubled its lead in the 78th minute when Claire Cavacini converted from inside the box, advancing on Empie.
Empie finished the match with two saves, while Mia Kubek paced the Tigers' attack with two shots. DePauw generated six shots overall but could not find the back of the net.
DePauw, now 3-1 on the season, will look to bounce back in its next match Saturday, September 13th when they host Wheaton (Ill.) at 12 p.m.
