Memphis, TN - DePauw field hockey racked up three goals off the sticks to roll to a 3-2 victory over Rhodes on Saturday afternoon at Mason Field. team took down Rhodes 3-2 on the road for their first win of the 2025 season.
The Tiger (1-2) jumped out in front early, netting the game's first goal at 4:57 off a penalty corner with
Ella Morris standing guard at the cage and snagging the ball off a pass from
Ella Mickey. The Lynx evend the score with a goal of their own at 7:10.
In the second quarter, Rhodes caught an offensive flurry tallying five shots and placing one in the cage for their second goal of the game, leading 2-1 by halftime.
Going into halftime, Rhodes edged DePauw 9-5 in shots and 5-2 in penalty corners.
DePauw jumped into action, leveling the score 2-2 when
Hailey Nowak evaded defenders and passed the ball from the far left end of the shooting circle to
Rosie Ondrla, who chipped he ball into the net.
With tension rising as the end of regulation loomed, the Tigers fought to maintain possession in scoring territory.
Sophie Flynn advanced on the net, crossing into the scoring circle before passing off to
Hailey Nowak in a last ditch effort before tripping over a defender. Nowak completed the attack by scoring the Tigers third goal of the evening, reclaiming the lead with less than six minutes left.
On the defense,
Olivia Streifel made six saves in goal to preserve the Tigers win over Rhodes, two in the last six minutes of play.
The Tigers will return to Greencastle for their season homeopener on Saturday, September 13 at 2:30 when they host Centre for a non-conference match up at Reavis.
