Greencastle, Ind. -Â DePauw field hockey defended home turf at Reavis Stadium on Saturday, pulling away in the second half to earn a 3-1 victory over Centre.
The Tigers struck first just over eight minutes into the match when Ellie Lochhead converted a penalty corner opportunity to give DePauw the early lead. Centre quickly answered less than a minute later with a goal from Claire Martin, sending the game into the first break tied 1-1.
From there, DePauw's attack controlled the pace. After relentless pressure in the second quarter—including seven shots and four penalty corners—the Tigers finally broke through again midway through the third. Hailey Nowak capitalized off an assist from Lochhead to put DePauw back in front. Less than ten minutes later, Ella Morris extended the lead to 3-1 on a setup from Sophie Flynn.
DePauw outshot Centre 24-6, forcing Colonels goalkeeper to make 13 saves to keep the game close. On the other end, Tiger keeper Olivia Streifel stood tall with two saves, while Tea Jerro made three in the final quarter to seal the win.
With the victory, DePauw improves to 2-2 on the season while Centre drops to 3-2.
The Tigers will return to action on Saturday, September 20th when they travel to Centre College to take on Bridgewater at 1:30 p.m.
