Meadville, Pa. - DePauw walked away undefeated on the weekend after defeating Allegheny 5-0 on the road. Hailey Nowak captured her first hat trick of the season, tallying three goals and one assist.
The Tigers tallied their first goal of the morning in the middle of the second quarter when Hailey Nowak executed a spin move when two defenders converged on her, dodging obstacles and smacking the ball clear into the top left corner of the cage.
On high alert for Nowak, the Tigers drew out the Gators' goalie by bringing Nowak close to the penalty circle. Hailey handed off to Ashley Appleby who stood ready on the right side of the cage and took advantage of the empty cage to put away the Tigers' second goal of the game - tallying her first goal of the season.
Walking into the fourth quarter with a 2-0 lead the Tigers did not let up netting three goals in the matter of five minutes.
With less than 9 minutes left in regulation, Ella Morris chipped the ball towards the cage and Nowak reignited it when it started to lose steam.
Minutes later, Maggie Volpe drilled the ball towards the cage and Gallagher stepped in to ensure the ball made it to the back of the cage for her first goal of her collegiate career.
Building momentum, the Tigers drew a penalty corner threading the needle for Ella Harms to knock a blocked shot towards Nowak just in time for her to find an opening in between defenders to tally her third goal of the game.
DePauw edged Allegheny in shots 24-3 and corners 12-4.
The Tigers will jump back into action on Saturday, October 4th at 12 p.m. when they look to earn another win for DePauw against Ohio Wesleyan.
