Danville, Ky. - DePauw field hockey dropped a 4-2 decision to Bridgewater (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.
Bridgewater came out strong, opening the scoring less than two minutes into the game. The Eagles doubled their lead in the second quarter to lengthen their lead 2-0.
The Tigers fought back late in the half with Rose Ondria shifted the ball on a spin in front of the cage and Ellie Lochhead finished the goal from a chaotic scramble of defenders.
DePauw proceeded to apply pressure in the third quarter with multiple penalty corners, but Bridgewater counteracted with a third and fourth goal to reignite their lead 4-1.
Ella Mickey made an unassisted goal on a corner to tally her first of the season. She took the initial shot, gather her own rebound and weaved through defenders to place final shot on cage to score the second goal of the evening for the Tigers.
The Tigers were outshot 15-11, with DePauw claiming four shots on goal. DePauw also recorded a defensive save following a defensive penalty corner. Lochhead had a good day, leading the Tigers with four shots. Goalkeeper Olivia Streifel tallied three saves across 60 minutes.
With the loss, DePauw moves to 2-3 overall, while Bridgewater improves to 2-4.The Tigers will return to action tomorrow to take on Roanoke at Centre College for a neutral site match up at 12:30.
