Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to a quick lead in the opening set against Rose-Hulman and kept the momentum going on the way to a 3-0 (25-12, 27-25, 25-23) win over the Fightin' Engineers. The Tigers improved to 6-6, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 9-1.
The Tigers led, 4-3, in the opening stages of the first set before rattling off seven straight points to begin to pull away for the 1-0 lead.
The second set featured 11 ties and three lead changes and DePauw held a 22-19 lead before Rose-Hulman scored the next three to even the count. The Tigers won the next two to reach set point, but the Fightin' Engineers won the next two to make it 24-24. The teams exchanged points before DePauw closed the set with kills from
Madeline Ozersky and
Belle Shelton.
The Tigers built a 15-10 lead in the third set on the strength of an 8-3 run and still led, 24-20. The Fightin' Engineers fought off three match points before Shelton ended the match with a kill.
Ozersky led the Tigers with 11 kills and
Mckenna Wilken added 10.
Julia McWaters paced the squad with 20 assists and
Kendall Herrick had two aces.
Grace Myers had a team-high 24 digs and
Jen Proeh totaled six blocks.
Amaya Harrell and Greta Carlson each totaled 11 kills for Rose-Hulman with Julia Irmen finishing with 30 assists. Lily Ebright led the defensive effort with 23 digs with Keira Ohse and Carlson each recording two blocks.
DePauw outhit Rose-Hulman, .219-.092, with each team totaling 39 kills. The Tigers led in blocks, 8-3, and in aces, 5-4.
DePauw hosts Hanover on Saturday at Noon.
