North Manchester, IN. - The DePauw Women's Soccer team held a lead against Manchester to walk away with their first win of the season, 3-1.
The Tigers took the lead in the first half, edging the Spartans in shots, 14-1. The team earned three corner kicks. With offensive pressure, the Tigers found the back of the Spartan's net twice, building their lead early in the opening 22 minutes.
Senior, Ellie Mahan scored the first goal of the season for the Tigers. Senior, Jayla Logan added to the offensive onslaught with another unassisted goal 12 minutes later.
In the 50th minute of play, the Spartans managed to break through the Tigers' backline and cut the Tigers' lead 2-1 with just under 40 minutes left in the game.
DePauw extended their lead to three in the 64th minute; KJ Ely fired a shot into the back of the Spartan's net off an assist from Emmy Streeter. With well over 25 minutes left in regulation, DePauw continued to push the pace of the game, tallying five more shots against Manchester's defense.
The Tigers had a 22-3 shooting edge over the Spartans and an 11-0 advantage over Manchester in corner kicks. First-year Riley Cholewa faced no shots in goal for the Tigers, while Spartans'' Reagan Claus recorded 11 saves.
The Tigers return to Greencastle, Ind., on Monday, September 1, to host Greenville University at Reavis Stadium for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Panthers.
