Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw split against Transylvania, dominating the first game 10-2 and falling to the Pioneers 3-2 in the second.
In the opener, Paige Brady hit a double line drive to right field to bring home the first run of the game with Riley Heim crossing the plate. Libby Minobe was walked to fill the bases for the first time during the game. Katie Matthies hit a grounder to second, finding a hole in the Pioneers defense to drive home three runs off an error, making the score 4-0 at the end of the second.
Heim hit a bullet past the pitcher's ear in the bottom of the third to get the Tigers' offense going. She proceeded to capitalize on a wild pitch to earn another run. Hanna Coffel laced a double to the fence to tally a two run RBI, stretching the lead to 7-0 before the Pioneers switched pitchers.
The Pioneers remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when they got ambitious on the base path during a throwing error, tallying two unearned runs.
The Tigers went on a final three run rally in the bottom of the fourth, hitting a couple line drive singles. Playing small-ball proved efficient for the Tigers, earning three runs in seven at bats. Heim lined up the middle and uncovered an infield cutoff error to bring in Evy Krueger.
In the nightcap, the scoreboard remained empty till the bottom of the third when the Tigers loaded the bases before Brady drove one into right field to bring home Erin Smith.
At the top of the sixth, Transylvania's Jordan Fico pinch hit. She homered into left field to drive in three runs for the Pioneers.
The Tigers' dugout remained quiet till the bottom of the seventh, when Ella Kuenster reignited the team with a pop up perfectly placed at the intersection of the first base foul line and infield lip. The ball bounced foul and drew the fielders away for Kuenster to take second. Mathies followed suit, launching a sac fly into right field to bring in pinch runner Libby Minobe to close in on the Pioneers, 3-2
Brady had four of DePauw's 17 hits, while Mathies led the Tigers with four RBI on the day.
Peyton Rohr improved to 1-2 with the win, including three strikeouts and one walk. Reagan Gibson dropped to 7-3.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow, Sunday, April 27, when they host Hiram in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. DePauw improved to 19-10, while Transylvania dropped to 22-4.
