Bloomington, Ill. - DePauw matched a season-high with 16 hits in the nightcap of its doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan on the way to an 11-3 win after the Titans blanked the Tigers, 3-0, in the opener. DePauw moved to 11-24, while Illinois Wesleyan is 21-13.
In the second game the Titans took a 3-0 lead in the second as four batters walked and Matt Hudik drove in a pair with a single.
DePauw reached the board in the third with
Tyler Walkey reaching on an error before
Max Bond walked and
Drew Straub doubled, scoring both.
The Tigers took the lead in the fourth as
Louis Florida was hit by a pitch and scored on
Aidan Howard's triple. After Walkey walked and stole second, Bond drove them both in with a single to make it 5-3.
DePauw expanded the lead to 9-3 in the fifth as
Cooper Davis drew a bases loaded walk, Howard followed with an RBI single and Walkey drove in a pair with a single.
The Tigers' final two runs came in the sixth as Straub,
Carter Knoll and
Grady Johnson singled before
Cuinn Morrow scored Straub with a sacrifice fly.
Louis Florida's single plated Knoll to give DePauw an 11-3 advantage.
Straub and Johnson each had three of DePauw's 16 hits with Bond, Knoll, Florida, Howard and Walkey finishing with two apiece. Justin Gadomski paced Illinois Wesleyan with two of its seven hits.
Holt Heldebrand improved to 1-0, while Benson Cole dropped to 2-3.
In the opener, the teams battled through three scoreless innings before Illinois Wesleyan broke through in the fourth as Gage Wolfe's single scored Jimmy Gurgone. Casey Swanson and Tristan Figus added run-scoring singles in the fifth for the game's final runs.
Bryson Dorsey had two of DePauw's four hits, while Figus had four of the Titans' 11 hits with Hudik and Gurgone each adding two.
Johnny Curry dropped to 0-1, while Will Davidsmeier improved to 3-2 and Luke Costello collected his fourth save.
DePauw returns to action on Tuesday, April 29, with a Noon North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wabash.
