Springfield, Ohio - Wittenberg jumped out to a 5-2 first-quarter lead and kept the lead in a 20-5 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over DePauw. DePauw dropped to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg improved to 5-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Wittenberg grabbed the early lead as Dillon McKeigue scored just 2:06 into the contest, but DePauw countered as
Henry White scored 1:32 later.
The hosts scored the next three before the teams exchanged goals in the final 24 seconds of the opening period to give Wittenberg a 5-2 advantage. Wittenberg then outscored DePauw, 7-1, in the second period and 3-0 in the third to put the game away.
Five different Tigers had one goal apiece with
Gavin Berry assisting on two.
Anthony Reinhardt stopped six Wittenberg shots in goal for the Tigers. Chase Singleton had one save for Wittenberg and Griffin Howell totaled six.
McKeigue led Wittenberg with six goals and Nathan Brown chipped in four.
Matthew Roman won 10-of-25 faceoffs and recorded four ground balls to tie the program career record of 259 held by Jack Kneisley (2020-23).
Nick Wehbe and
Jack Blum each caused three turnovers.
Wittenberg's Charlie Frederick won 10-of-15 faceoffs and Colten Simkins was 8-of-11. Frederick and Tripp Salowich each had five ground balls and Max Benincasa caused three turnovers.
Wittenberg outshot DePauw, 44-27 and held a 26-12 edge in shots on goal. The hosts also led in ground balls, 40-20 and won 18 of the 28 faceoffs.
DePauw wraps up the season on Saturday, April 26, with a 1 p.m. NCAC game at Oberlin.
