Tigers Rally Late, Falling in Final Second to Battling Bishops

Greencastle, Ind. - The Tigers fell behind in the first half, before finding steam to nearly force the Batting Bishops into overtime with free position shots.

Mary Mason led the Tigers with five points (4g, 1a) while scoring a hat trick along with teammates Kate Sullivan and Kate Leone, to account for 10 of the Tigers points combined.

Ohio Wesleyan kicked off the game with a goal less than a minute into regulation. The Tigers' Caleigh Claar capitalized on the Bishops' first foul to score a free position goal to tie up the score, 1-1.

The Bishops netted three goals in response before Mason found an opening to cut the lead, 4-2, off an assist dished up by Meredtih Buti from behind the net.

Bridget Driscoll and Leone tallied two goals for the Tigers in the second, tying up the score at 4-4 before the Bishops went on a five-goal streak to reclaim the lead entering halftime.

Rejoining the field, the Tigers' took note of Bishop's physicality to capitalize on fouls and free position shots, collecting two in the third and four in the fourth period.

Sophomore, Kate Leone, weaved through defenders to net a pivotal goal, tying up the game 13-13, and illustrating the Tigers' offensive comeback.

Sullivan tallied another free position, but the Bishops responded. With 2:45 remaining in regulation, the game was tied up for the third time, 14-14. DePauw struggled to find a hole during a free position attempt to record the win. Once turned over, the Bishops drew a foul and launched a free-position goal to win the match with less than a second to spare.

OWU's Brie Colangelo led the team with eight points (3g, 5a) with Caroline Fleming trailing offensively with five goals.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot DePauw, 35-27, and led in ground balls, 22-15. The Bishop's committed 14  turnovers to the Tigers' 16.

The Tigers will return to action Saturday, April 26th when they travel to Oberlin for their last NCAC match up of the season at 4 p.m.
