Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw extended its win streak to 10 with a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Wittenberg by scores of 7-4 and 3-0. DePauw improved to 18-10 overall and 10-0 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg dropped to 21-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
In the opener, Wittenberg grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first after Meghan McCans walked, moved to second on a ground out, stole third and scored when Kirsten Wright reached on an error. Rebekah Giel reached on a fielder's choice that forced Wright at second and Hanna Ecker drove in Giel with a double.
DePauw took the lead in the third as
Ella Kuenster reached second on an error and scored when
Paige Brady singled. Brady then moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on
Callie Rheinheimer's single.
Kelsey Schneider entered as a pinch-runner for Rheinheimer and stole second.
Riley Heim reached on a fielder's choice that forced Brady at third and
Madi Lockridge's grounder advanced the runners to second and third. Schneider scored on a wild pitch and Heim came home when
Hanna Coffel reached on an error.
Wittenberg evened the score in the third when Wright led off with a double, stole third and scored on Ecker's single. The visiting Tigers took the lead in the fifth on Kaela May's sacrifice fly that scored Kennedy Reed.
Brady's single in the fifth scored
Macey Cox and
Libby Minobe came home on an error on the throw from the outfield. Rheinheimer followed with a triple to right that brought home
Angelese Cruz and Brady.
Cox, Minobe, Brady, Rheinheimer and Lockridge each had two of DePauw's 11 hits. Ecker had four of Wittenberg's eight hits and Wright added two.
Riley Depa improved to 10-4, while Samantha Zungri dropped to 8-4.
In the nightcap,
Mia Speidel singled with one out and moved to third on
Erin Smith's double. Cox followed with an infield hit that scored Speidel.
Katie Mathies singled to lead off the fourth and Schnedier came in as a pinch-runner. Rheinheimer's double moved Schneider to third before
Riley Heim scored both with a double.
Heim had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Julia Burch and Diana Quevedo each had two of Wittenberg's six hits.
Alex Romero-Salas improved to 6-2 with the shutout which included four strikeouts and no walks. Julie Hall dropped to 7-3.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 26, when they host Transylvania in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. DePauw improved to 18-10 overall and 10-0 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg dropped to 21-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
