Oberlin, Ohio - DePauw opened North Coast Athletic Conference play at Oberlin and came away with a sweep of the Yeowomen by scores of 12-2 and 13-2. The Tigers improved to 10-10 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC, while Oberlin dropped to 2-21 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
In the opener,
Macey Cox walked and stole second before
Katie Mathies tripled and then scored on
Alex Romero-Salas' single.
Oberlin cut the Tigers' lead in half in the third as Roxie Freifeld walked and moved to second on Alexis Croatt's single. Wren Norris' sacrifice bunt advanced the runners and Freifeld came home on a wild pitch.
The Tigers scored three in the fourth as
Libby Minobe singled home
Riley Heim and
Ella Kuenster scored
Hanna Coffel and Minobe with a bases loaded single.
In the fifth,
Madi Lockridge reached on an error with
Kelsey Schneider and Heim scoring. Kuenster led off the DePauw sixth with a triple and scored when Romero-Salas singled. Heim's single plated pinch-runner
Angelese Cruz before
Callie Rheinheimer reached on a fielder's choice that allowed
Paige Brady to cross home. Heim came home after a failed pickoff attempt which made it 12-1.
Maya Means' sacrifice fly in the sixth scored Norris, but a ground out followed and the game ended due to the run rule.
Romero-Salas and Heim each had three of DePauw's 14 hits with Minobe, Kuenster and Brady adding two apiece.
Croatt and Norris each had one hit for the Yeowomen.
Riley Depa improved to 6-4, while Sophie Stone dropped to 0-12.
In the nightcap, the Tigers scored in all five innings as the game ended after five due to the run rule.Â
DePauw scored three in the opening inning as Minobe reached on a fielder's choice with Kuenster scoring on the play before Romero-Salas and Brady followed with RBI singles.
The Tigers tacked on four more in the second as Minobe drove in Kuenster and
Evy Krueger with a single. Minobe came home when Romero-Salas reached on an error. Heim's sacrifice fly plated Mathies and pushed DePauw's lead to 7-0.
Romero-Salas singled in the third, scoring Krueger, and making it 8-0.
Mia Spidel's grounder in the fourth scored Heim and Krueger followed with a sacrifice fly that brought home
Kendall Hynes.
In the fifth, Heim singled home Cruz and Hynes drove in Heim and Brady with a single.
Oberlin's two runs came in the fifth on Leslie Sullivan's double.
Mathies had four of DePauw's 15 hits with Kuenster adding three and Romero-Salas and Heim following with two each.
Four different Yeowomen had one hit each.
Romero-Salas improved to 3-2 after pitching four perfect innings with four strikeouts. Hailey Alspach dropped to 2-11.
DePauw travels to Wooster tomorrow for a 2:30 p.m. NCAC doubleheader.
