Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored three times in the opening nine minutes on the way to a 7-4 win over visiting Illinois Tech. The Tigers improved to 2-2, while the Scarlet Hawks dropped to 1-3.
Beckett Tasker,
Oscar Kokke and
Alex Sharma each scored in the opening period to give DePauw a 3-0 lead and the Scarlet Hawks didn't reach the scoreboard until 2:27 remained in the half when Will Von Eyser scored.
Evan Cleveland wrapped up the first-half scoring with 1:21 left to give DePauw a 4-1 halftime lead.
Sharma and
Joseph Jones scored in the opening 3:25 of the second half to push the lead to 6-1. Jonathan Vitale stopped the DePauw run with 3:11 left in the third before
Jack Neff rounded out the Tigers' scoring with 12:39 left in the contest. Connor Montgomery added one for Illinois Tech with 10:41 remaining.
Sharma was the lone multiple-goal scorer in the game as he finished with two.
Henry White led DePauw with six ground balls, while
Nolan Childs caused four turnovers and
Matthew Roman won seven faceoffs.
Jackson Brass totaled six ground balls for the Scarlet Hawks with Henry Rankin and Jaeger Breault each causing three turnovers. DePauw's
Anthony Reinhardt recorded 10 saves in goal, while Kyle Johnson had 13 stops for the Scarlet Hawks.
DePauw outshot Illinois Tech, 52-32, while the Scarlet Hawks held a 36-35 edge in ground balls.
The Tigers host North Central at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8.
