Greencastle, Ind. - A 6-0 run that bridged the third and fourth periods propelled visiting North Central to an 11-7 victory over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 2-3, while the Cardinals improved to 5-1.
North Central's Wyatt Hunt gave his team the lead with 9:23 left in the first, but DePauw responded with scores from
Beckett Tasker,
Noah Sulpizio and
Henry White to take a 3-1 lead with 6:00 left in the half.
The Cardinals took advantage of an non-releasable DePauw penalty to score twice in 22 seconds and even the count at 3-3.
DePauw's
Jack Neff gave the Tigers the lead with 2:10 remaining in the half, but Hunt scored with 53 seconds left to make it 4-4.
Oscar Kokke's goal with 10:47 left in the third put the Tigers ahead, but it was short-lived as Cole Westphal countered just 40 seconds later and Luke Paris delivered the go-ahead goal with 7:14 remaining in the third. The Cardinals scored four more to extend the lead to 10-5 with 4:22 left.
White and Sulpizio wrapped up the DePauw scoring, sandwiching a North Central goal.
White and Sulpizio each scored a pair for the Tigers, while Paris had four for North Central with Hunt, Westphal and Charlie Snyder contributing two each. White had two assists for the Tigers with Paris and Kyle Carollo finishing with two each for the Cardinals.
Anthony Reinhardt recorded six saves for the Tigers with Aidan Murphy totaling 16 for the Cardinals.
Brody Carlson and
Jack Brand each had five ground balls for the Tigers with Carlson causing two turnovers.
Gavin Braley had eight ground balls for the Cardinals, while Alex Porter caused two turnovers.
DePauw outshot North Central, 47-30, and held a 35-26 edge in ground balls. Each team won 11 faceoffs and the Tigers committed 15 turnovers to the Cardinals' 19.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 15, with a 3 p.m. game in Charleston, S.C. against UMass-Boston.
